Theresa C. Villani is an associate with the firm.  She received her B.A. in Political Science and Education in 1977 from Stony Brook University and her J.D. from St. John's Law School in 1980.  She is licensed to practice in New York and is also admitted to the Federal Courts in New York.  Ms. Villani was previously a member of the firm of Smetana Villani Rex & Derrico, in house counsel to a major liability and casualty insurance company for 20 years.  She served as both senior trial counsel and co-managing attorney.

As attorney of record, Ms. Villani handled all aspects of personal injury litigation including initial case evaluation, client contact, investigation, pleadings, pre-trial discovery, depositions, motions, court appearances, settlement negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, trials and appeals.  She has broad experience in defending matters on behalf of insurance carriers including areas of automobile liability, premises liability, construction accidents, products liability, negligent hiring and failure to provide security.  She has tried over 25 cases to verdict.

While with her former firm, Ms. Villani was selected to manage several major accounts such as Nike, Candies, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Snapple, Modells, Party City, Merrill Lynch, Bank of New York and the USTA.  She also served as a court appointed arbitrator for the United States District Court Eastern District for several years where she presided over personal injury and property damages cases subjected to compulsory non-binding arbitrations.

Ms. Villani has also served on the Disciplinary Committee of the Appellate First Department for two years conducting administrative hearings before a panel of noted Appellate Division judges and committee members.
